Lapbooking Fun~ Autumn

We are just starting a unit study on Autumn. The girls are learning about the equinox, rotation of the earth, solstice and climate changes. We decided to include an Autumn lapbook in the mix. Once we are finished with the unit study we will attach it to the lapbook so its all together for easy reference.

Recipes and jokes on the front cover. Along with a bit of art work. Hali's lapbook turned out very cute! Abby still hasn't started on hers. It is slated to begin at the end of this week.

This is a quad fold. Shown here is the right flap. She still has to finish her leaf rubbings and collections of fall leaves. However, everything is mostly green still so this will have to wait.

Lapbooking fun~ All about me

We started the all about me lapbooks last week. These too are a work in progress. The girls are a little hesitant about cutting a lock of hair for this project. I tend to agree. However we still have the fingerprinting to do. They had alot of fun with these lapbooks and mommy learned quite a bit too about her girls!

This is Abby's lapbook front.

Front cover~Left side. It has her signature, and cards that state her current favorite things. Believe it or not, deciding what was a favorite and what was not did take some soul searching.

Inside her lapbook. Here you can see that a lapbook can be folded any way you want it to fold. We have done trifolds, quad folds and half folds.

Open minit books. I think one of the favorite activities was the one that they had to decide what they would do with a certain amount of money. In the minit book that talks about how they spend their time, they documented their daily activities. In the last book it asks about where they live and information that is important to them.

 I tried to picture some of the minit books open so you could see a sample of the questions they had to reflect on.

I think I should have printed some of these out on colored paper.

Someone's calander was pretty full of activities. WHERE do people get the idea that homeschoolers are not socialized enough?

 Lapbooking Fun~ Seasons

We started the months of the year lapbook in our first week of school. We are also doing unit studies on each of the seasons, so this should give Abby a better scope of how the seasons change and which months are in which seasons. It also introduced using a calander for herself and keeping track of her own important dates and functions.

Inside her envelope here is a list of each of the months and activities that would normally happen.

This is the inside of her lapook. Poems, songs and activities. Since this is a work in progress we are not completely finished with it yet. If anyone can tell me why this picture decided to invert itself I would love to know how to fix it (It's showing upright in my windows picture)

Lapbooking fun~ Ocean Basics

This year a wonderful friend introduced me to lap booking (Thanks Julia). I have taken the idea and ran with it. I am currently using the lap book with just Hali and Abby. I have not come across anything yet that would be good and productive for the boys. As you can see, these lap books are done by the kids. I did put a different twist on our lap books however. I am trying to do a lap book and unit study on the same thing. That way the lap book can reiterate what they are learning inside of the unit study. I happened across some super sized file folders. These are the kind that protect large paintings and commercial blueprints. Normal lap books are generally made from file folders used for small businesses and such. Because I have so much room available in them, I decided that it would be a brilliant idea if I could attach the unit studies to it.








Imagine Abby's surprise when she saw these ugly fish with no eyes in the midnight zone. She decided even IF she could go to the bottom of the ocean, she didn't want to. Pictured here is her unit study that shows the zones of the ocean. This unit study was filled with good information and good pictures to help her visualize what they are taking about. At the end of the study there are several work pages that test the comprehension for that unit.






















I think every scrapbooker loves to see stickers and embellishments on their kids work.













Abby was so surprised when she found out about the 5 oceans and them being connected. What was really great was that she comprehended that oceans were both warm and cold. We included some of the cold water animals and activities in this lap book. I think when most of us think about oceans we only think about the warm water animals. Abby learned about penguins, polar bears, seahorses, sharks and fish.





This is a memory matching game. When I printed out these cards I was shocked to know there was so many different kinds! Eventually we will match up the pictures on these cards with the collection currently housed in my bathroom (from our many trips to Louisiana~ Thank you Tonya, Nana and Papa Tom) and will do identification. Until then she can continue to play the memory game with her sister.
